Anticipation was high ahead of The National Wax Museum in Dublin unveiling a figure of Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor on Thursday. The waxwork had been made to honor the celebrated musician, who died aged 56 on July 26, 2023. But the plan to mark the one-year anniversary of her death fell flat following a largely unenthusiastic response to the waxwork
The criticism was led by the singer’s brother, John O’Connor, who voiced his disappointment of the wax figure, which depicted the Dublin-born talent dressed in all black and holding a microphone.

When Hurricane Charley hit Punta Gorda, Fla., with 145 mph winds in 2004, the storm demolished Diane Caputo’s restaurant, Monty’s. It took her more than three years to reopen at the original location. When Hurricane Ian made landfall last month at similar strength, Monty’s fared much better.
“I have an outdoor bar patio that took a pretty bad hit, we have water in here and we’ve been cleaning up ever since Ian passed,” Caputo says.
In the end, it took a crime that was shocking even by the standards of Mexico’s blood-soaked drug war for federal forces to sweep down on this small community of 140,000 in the country’s southern Guerrero state. On the night of Sept. 26—a date now inscribed on Mexico’s calendar of historic atrocities—police and cartel thugs in the town of Iguala went on a killing spree. First they shot dead three students and three passersby, slicing the face off one victim and leaving his corpse on a street.

The Night They Raided Minsky’s is a valedictory valentine to oldtime burlesque. In legend, the girls were glamorous, and every baggy-pants buffoon was a second W. C. Fields. In truth, the institution was as coarse as its audiences. Minsky’s mixes both fact and fancy in a surprisingly successful musical. The barefaced comedy is matched by the pratfall plot. Rachel, a chaste Amish girl (Britt Ekland) decides that since dancing is mentioned in the Bible and Minsky’s Manhattan burlesque house is not, joining the chorus line must be all right with God.
